Development’s Out of Control

What you see above is a prime example of land development that is gone out of control. It’s the parking lot of a Walmart in south Nashville (Nolensville Rd. and Old Hickory Blvd.)

Yes, that is a bridge, one of approximately 5 that were built over a creek to accomodate the big box retailer and it’s massive parking lot. Walmart was able to build this development several years ago.

Can’t blame Walmart, they saw it as a prime location from the old One that was replaced (right across the street). Seems like Nashville may need to be more stringent on their allowable development practices.

I don’t know how much of a negative effect the development has on the surrounding land and creek but I’m sure that if it exist, someone will bring it to light.

Now personally I have two issues with the lot’s design (and yes I do shop there at times for some reason…).
1) Parking is a pain and
2) If you study the above picture, you’ll notice that there are no sidewalks along the bridges.

Mind you, about 75% of the parking is located on the far side of the bridges so a lot of pedestrians need to cross them to get to their cars. Bad and unsafe design in my opinion. Oh wait, Walmart provides a free valet sevice to park and return your car to you. Who uses that at a store anyway?

That’s my rant. Let’s work to avoid this in the future Mr. & Mrs. Developer and city planner. I’m out.

Studio Time

Yo, yesterday I had a chance to get in the studio (Fox Mountain) to begin recording my next project!

I’m definitely excited about the oportunity to put out some fresh music in 2010. So keep checking back here and on Twitter for more progress on the project.

Positivity In… Negativity Out

Stop-Negativity-Sign

What’s up everybody. It’s been a long time. But enough of that…

I wanted to make sure I posted about the great Negativity Fast that is going on for the month of December. Yes, that’s right, a fast from all negativity. What does this exactly mean?

Well it means exactly what it says, this month let’s try to give up on all of the negative aspects of our lives, so much so that by the end of the month, there is no reason to allow them back in. Negativity can manifest in many ways, but these three come to my mind:

  • attitude
  • thoughts
  • outlook

Bite_Tongue_Face

So let’s continue to focus on eliminating negativity from our lives. It can be done!! Be confident in Christ and know that He can remove it from our lives. Until the next time…

Just Making Sure This Thing is Still On

I haven’t blogged in a minute so I just wanted to be sure this still works. I’m going to get back at it though.

What Up With That!

This is a funny clip from last week’s Saturday Night Live. Well, at least it is funny to me. Jason Sudeikis is straight killin’ the dance floor and Kenan Thompson is funny too. Peep.

Lessons for Freelancers

Yo, my main man Leigh over at Eyejammy has a good article for my fellow graphic designers to check out over at his blog iam.eyejammy.com. It’s about the things we should watch for when doing freelance graphic design.

Check this excerpt:

The word “No” is your best friend…Unless you’re saying something like “Yes, but that will cost extra.”
Beware…be very aware of “feature creep.” No, I’m not calling clients creeps, it’s when a client suddenly wants extra features that their original proposal did not cover. Alot of times they see it as a favor, and work under the old “customer is always right” rule. Not so in the creative world. Extra features means more time, therefore, requires more money. If the client wants features outside of the original proposal, be sure to make adjustments in the total cost of the project, write up the amendments and have them sign off on it before you start the extra work. That will cover you on your end…just in case.

Check out the rest of the article and be sure to give him daps.

My Day on the Subway, Airplane, Commuter Train…

Yo, what more can I say. Today has been a full day of traveling using a lot of forms of transportation.

I went from automobile to plane to airport tram/train to another plane to shuttle bus to commuter train to subway train to bus. All in about 9 hours. Fun times. Phone battery died. Good night.

Walk to School Day

International Walk to School Day is tomorrow. Walk your kids to school!

Home schooled? Walk them around the block a couple of times.

Bussed? Walk them to the busstop (I really hope you ain’t driving your kids .133 miles to the busstop).

Live too far? Drive? Well park a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Their suspended? Well that’s another story. Lol.

Trailer Park Tuesday – Good Hair

Yo, this trailer from the upcoming film Good Hair, with Chris Rock and dozens of other stars, looks like it will be funny and interesting. Black hair has always been a fascinating topic in the black community and now the flood gates are being opened to the masses.

I have a feeling this will have a big opening weekend at the box office. Check out the trailer of Good Hair (rated PG-13 for language), opening in select cities October 9 and nationwide on October 23.

MMS for iPhone Tomorrow

Tomorrow’s the day that iPhone users have been waiting for since the phone came out a little over 2 years ago. MMS is finally here!

iphone-mms

Reports are that AT&T is worried about the strain that its MMSing iPhone users will put on their network. Well, that’s what happens when you have an exclusive deal for the most popular mobile phone (I bet that will end soon).

Google also finally allowed gmail to be pushed to the iPhone using their Google Sync service earlier this week. I have been waiting for this for a while too. The only downfall is you can only have one exchange account on your iPhone (Apple?!). So I am in beta mode to see if I can do without work email access on my phone (not like they’re paying for it). So far so good.

Either way, as long as the iPhone keeps getting better it’s cool with me.

Why Is This So Funny!!!??

I Know What the Other Half Is!

Ahh. Yes, after over 20 years I now know what the other half is. Remember the 1980s GI Joe cartoon? At the end they would always have a 30-second segment where they would teach some life lession. Then they would say, “And knowing is half the battle. GI Joe!!” (see video clip after break)

Well thanks to this dope t-shirt, I now know that the other half is 25% red lasers and 25% blue lasers. Lol. Get it? Then get your shirt at Wire & Twine and get your eyes tested! Continue reading…

Candy Recession – Tragedy!

Now this is a doggone shame!! Even the candy companies are being hit hard by the recession. I mean really, look at the amount of candy (in white air-tight sealed package) that came in this big’ole box. Come on now. They might as well cut back more and just make smaller boxes. Wow.

Yup, the jelly beans too.

That is all.
